A public lecture given by Mr. Rodolfo Peikov, member of the IISC Consultative Council, on INTERNATIONAL TRAFFICKING IN DRUGS for students majoring in Economics of Defense and Security at the UNWE, 17 December 2009.

On 17 December 2009, the Great Hall of the UNWE in Sofia hosted the public lecture of Mr. Rodolfo Peikov from Italy. The lecture was attended by students majoring in Economics of Defense and Security, representatives of the student councils, student associations and professors. Long-term DEA officer and member of the Consultative Council of the International Institute for Security and Cooperation, Mr. Rodolfo Peikov talked to them about International trafficking in drugs.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, Head of the National and Regional Security Department and representative of the Center for Strategic Studies in Defense and Security (CSSDS) - a legal entity which is a member of the IISC, presented Mr. Peikov. Mr. Peikov worked for more than 30 years with the Anti-Drug Agencies in the United States, starting in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD) which later became the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) with the United States Department of Justice, and occupied different positions all over the world. Before he retired, he worked for the European DEA. Mr. Rodolfo Peikov is a member of the Association of Former Federal Narcotics Agents (AFFNA) and a member of the International Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association (INEOA).

The lecturer, who is of Bulgarian origin, provided ample illustrations to show the beginning and the path of drugs in the world, the illegal networks starting in Columbia, Afghanistan and other regions, the types of drugs, their production and distribution in the period 1997 - 2008 and the modern trends in drug trafficking and combating it. Interesting pictures and specific data complemented the presentation with people, participants and facts on a global scale.

The lecture was given in English and was organized by the National and Regional Security Department with the cooperation of the International Institute for Security and Cooperation (IISC) and the UNWE Center for Strategic Studies in Defense and Security.
